When you need a CP16 in Nottingham
Tightness testing is needed when new gas pipework is installed, when an existing installation is extended or altered, after a gas supply has been disconnected, and whenever a leak is suspected. It is also commonly requested before a commercial gas safety inspection or meter change.
How the test is carried out
We test to the IGEM/UP/1 standard for non-domestic installations, calculating the installation volume and permitted pressure drop, then monitoring the pipework over the required test period. Where pipework needs bringing into or out of service we purge it safely and record the results on the CP16.
Frequently asked questions
What is a CP16 certificate?
A CP16 records a gas tightness test and purge on non-domestic gas pipework, confirming it holds pressure and has been safely purged.
What standard is commercial tightness testing carried out to?
Commercial and industrial installations are tested to IGEM/UP/1, which sets the test method, duration and permitted pressure drop.
What happens if the tightness test fails?
The engineer will locate the leak where possible, make the installation safe and give you a written quote to repair it before retesting.
